About us

house-cropped1

Dundas Valley Medical Centre was founded nearly 40 years ago in a house on the border of Dundas Valley and Telopea  by Dr Kelvin Lo and Dr Leslie Nighjoy – two doctors who had a real heart for the community. Their patient-centred approach and dedication has been admired by the many patients who have attended the practice. The photo above is of the house that they worked in over these many years.

Dr Peter Chong joined the team in 2012 and soon after the team gradually grew in size to what it is today.

In September 2015, the practice relocated to our current address – a shop across the road in Telopea – freshly fitted out but still aiming to retain that friendly homely feel of the old surgery. From February 2016, our surgery has expanded to being affiliated with our other practice in Lidcombe (Quality Health Medical Centre), which aims to offer the same philosophy and quality of medicine.

Our commitments can be summarised below:

  • We are committed to providing effective and efficient patient-centred health care.
  • We are committed to ongoing education amongst doctors to improve our patient care.
  • We are committed to ongoing review of the systems and facilities of the medical centre to ensure improvement in quality of functioning and patient flow.
  • We are committed to taking any feedback or complaints seriously.
  • We are committed to ethical medical practice.
  • We are committed to the community and the people that we are serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctor and allied health professionals’ availability

Please contact our surgery for availability of doctors as it may be subject to change.

Our allied professionals are booked by appointments only and are available at the following times:

  • Pierre louis Lamarque (psychologist) works every Saturday in the morning. All consults are bulkbilled under the mental health care plan and are booked for 1 hr consultations.
  • Yancy Man (dietitian) works once a month on the Wednesday afternoon (Yancy is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese). All consults are bulk billed under the EPC referral and are booked for 30 minute consultations
  • San Tran (podiatrist) works every Saturday. All consults are bulk billed under the EPC referral. Please call for private fees.

Appointment system

A varied number of appointments will be available each day according to doctors’ preferences and to cater for patients who walk in. Walk-in consultations are welcome but priority will be given to patients with appointments and depending on number of walk-ins,  a realistic wait time may not be possible. No walk ins will be accepted 30 minutes before closing time (unless the doctor otherwise permits). We will regularly review our systems to better cater for patient flow, needs and waiting times.

Saturdays

Please note that walkins will NOT be accepted after 12pm. We are currently trialling opening hours from 9-12 on Saturdays (previously 9-1pm). The doctor, however, may book in appointments from 730am (but strictly no walkins will be accepted prior to 9)

Home visits

Please contact the after hours doctor service for home visits

After-hours doctor service

An after hours home visit service is available for regular patients of this practice. For more information please call (02) 8724 6300.

Enquiries/speaking to a doctor

All enquiries will first be received by a member of the reception staff. For medically urgent conditions, a doctor will be informed immediately. We will ensure that all non-urgent medical matters will be dealt with by the relevant doctor at the time of first convenience.

Results of investigations

We ask all patients to return to speak with their doctor regarding all investigations. For urgent abnormal results, the patient will be contacted.

Complaints and feedback

We endeavour to continue improving the quality of service that our medical centre provides. If you have any complaints or feedback, our preference is that you please speak to the receptionist staff, the doctor or use our suggestion box. If you feel that the problem cannot be resolved in this manner, you may contact the NSW Health Complaints Commission on 1800 043 159.
